How the combined test works

Press “Start camera + microphone test” and allow both. The checklist turns green step by step: Camera when your picture arrives, Microphone when we hear your voice, and Test clip after you record one.

Press “Record a 5-second clip”, say a sentence, then play it back. You'll see whether your voice and lips are in sync, whether the sound is clear and whether the picture is sharp and bright enough.

Before a video call or interview

Select the camera and microphone you'll really use in the two lists (headset or laptop, built-in or external). Most call apps use the same devices the browser uses by default, so if it works here, it usually works there too.

Light from the front, the camera at eye level and a quiet room make a much bigger difference than expensive equipment.

Before an online exam

Exam and proctoring tools usually require both camera and microphone the whole time. Run this test on the same computer and in the same browser you'll use for the exam, close other apps that use the camera, and keep your charger plugged in.

Common call problems and quick fixes

Others hear an echo of themselves? Your speakers are feeding back into your microphone: use headphones, or lower the speaker volume. Your voice cuts in and out? Check the input level bar while you speak: if it barely moves, move closer to the microphone or pick a better one in the list.

The call app shows a different camera or microphone than this test? Open the app's audio and video settings and choose the same devices you picked here. And if everything works here but not in the app, the app itself probably needs camera and microphone permission in your system settings.
