    How the reaction test works

Click the box to start. It turns red: wait. After a random pause it turns green, and that's your moment to click. The time between green appearing on your screen and your click is your reaction time. Click while it's still red and the try doesn't count.

Five tries are averaged, because a single try is often luck. Results under 100 ms are treated as a guess and repeated: no human reacts that fast to a picture.

What is a good reaction time?

On a computer, most people score between about 200 and 300 ms. Under 200 ms is very fast; 180 ms and below earns the Lightning level here. Your result includes a little delay from your screen and mouse, so the same person may score slightly differently on different devices.

Reaction time is usually best in young adulthood and slows a little with age. Sleep, caffeine, focus and warming up all make a noticeable difference.

How to improve your reaction time

Play a few warm-up rounds, sit comfortably with your finger resting on the button, and focus on the box instead of anticipating. Being rested helps more than any trick.

If you play games, a screen with a high refresh rate and a wired mouse reduce the delay your hardware adds.
